company profile

Carbon Partners Asiatica (“Asiatica”) has been established by some key former members of Mitsubishi UFJ Securities (MUS), including Junji Hatano who founded MUS’s climate change unit and headed it through its development to one of the global leaders in the field of carbon credits consulting Asiatica prides itself on being a high-quality boutique consulting firm specializing exclusively in assisting project owners. The name of the company includes an important concept – the word “partners” represents partnership with our project owner clients, as well as amongst our close-knit members.

Many project owners fail to attain the full carbon value of their projects. More often than not, they have only limited resources to allocate to carbon credit issues, which fall outside their core business. This, coupled with the immense complexity and frequent changes of carbon credit rules, does not easily allow project owners to have a clear understanding of the options available to them and make sound business judgments. To aggravate the difficulty, project owners need to protect their own interest throughout their negotiations with carbon credit buyers who are much more experienced than they are.

Against this background, Asiatica plans to add value by providing comprehensive assistance to project owners as they navigate through a complex process. Our mission is to serve the best interest of project owners. To clarify this point, Asiatica’s agreement with project owners includes an explicit prohibition for it to earn fees from carbon credit buyers in connection with the projects for which it is advising project owners.

It is our belief that provision of this type of service is becoming increasingly important in view of the recent trends for many competent consultant firms, even including some based in developing countries, to align themselves with carbon credit buyers whose interest is to source carbon credits as cheaply as possible.

A key result of our concept of partnership is that we do not take on a large number of projects. Our aim is to closely work with project owners to gain an intimate knowledge of a project, and to service a select number of clients from the project inception right through to CER issuance and sales. Currently, Asiatica has offices in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Bangkok, and Jakarta
